2012 Doublespeak: Beautiful Lengths

So this is the new commercail  for Pantene Pro V’s Beautiful Lengths Campaign. I want to make this post about the ingredients that are in this shampoo, and make people more aware of what they’re really buying. Although I do think that campaign has positive aspects, I don’t think it’s responsible to advertise a shampoo which has dangerous chemicals in it to promote cancer awareness.

“Created in 2006, the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program encourages women to cut and donate their hair so it can be turned into real-hair wigs.

The wigs are then distributed free of charge at American Cancer Society Wig Banks to women across the US who are undergoing cancer treatment.”

Let’s look at the ingredients:

As you can see, some of those ingredients look really questionable. What makes me really upset though, it how a lot of hair companies are wrapping their products in ribbons and marketing them as something safe, something that will go towards a good cause, which it partly does, but at the same time, causing harm.

But why isn’t there more focus on PREVENTING cancer? Like avoiding chemicals that are harmful?

I wanted to make this post to show just how fraudulent advertising is, in case some weren’t already aware that it’s just a big show to sell you something.

Side Note: You NEVER know what’s in the fragrance part because it’s considered a “trade secret”.
Good news: this product does not contain parabens

And now the colour scheming begins. Maybe I’ll stray away from my favorite colours pink & purple for once!
